Tributes paid to martyrs of
Liberation War
MEHERPUR,
Dec 16: In observance of the 47th
Victory Day the district dwellers paid glowing tributes to the memories of martyrs of our Liberation
War through various programs with a renewed pledge to further development,
peace, prosperity, poverty and illiteracy
free country.
The
victory day celebrated here in a befitting manner. To mark the day the district
administration undertook an elaborate programs.
The
day was began with 31 gun salutes at dawn at city’s Shaheed Sahamsuzzoha park,
hoisting of national flag atop all public and private buildings.
After
placing floral wreath at the memorial by
the district administration in the
town, political parties, social and cultural organizations including the
juvenile group placed floral wreath there.
A
grand march past comprising with police, BNCC, Ansar-VDP, Rover, Boy scout,
girls in guide and students of different
educational institutions and the inmates of the public orphanage was held at local stadium where the Deputy Commissioner Porimal Shingh and Police Super Anisur Rahman took salute.
Two
sides of road in the town were decorated with national flag. Sports competition
and cultural functions were held at different institutions. It was scheduled to
distribute rich diets among the the
inmates of orphanage, jail and hospitals but substandard diets were supplied to
the inmates of hospital. Special prayer seeking the peace and prosperity of the
country offered at mosques, temples,
churches.
Valiant freedom fighters and members of
martyred freedom fighters were accorded reception and a discussion meeting on
the occasion was held at local shilpokola academy with Porimal Shingh, Deputy Commissioner in the chair where Anisur Rahman, Police Super, Zilla Porishod
Chairman Alhaj Golam Rasul, Deputy Director Local Government Khairul Hasan,
Bashir Ahmed, former District Commander
Freedom Fighters District Command Council
among others were present as
guests. Almost of the alive freedom fighters attended the program.
In the evening a cultural program was held at Dr. Shahed Shamsuzzoha park. Its main attraction was a drama written by Prof. Hasanuzzaman Malek name "Ekattorer Kotha" . MP Forhad Hossain, DC Porimal Shingh and thousands of audience enjoyed dram as written on the fact that happened in Meherpur district.
