Substandard food supplied to the inmates of Meherpur General Hospital on Victory Day
MEHERPUR, Dec 16: Although there was a schedule to supply rich
dishes among the inmates of Meherpur 250-Bed General Hospital on the occasion
of Victory Day but allegedly supplied substandard foods. The admitted
patients complained to the Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, Mayor, Meherpur Municipality
as and when he went to hospital for inspection.
Patients Moslemuddin, Rahima Khatun, Mizanur Rahman alleged that the
foods were being supplied are substandard and unhygienic too.
In order to see the supplying foods physically Mayor entered into
the kitchen of the hospital and found the pain picture i.e. substandard rice, stale curd
and sweets and meat of she goats instead of mattoon. He found fungus in curd
and sweets. He did not find any responsible officials
except a clerk and two cooks. Mayor said that the foods supplied for the
patients were substandard and less in quantity and unhygienic too.
Food supplier Lal Mia said, “No tender called last five years as there
is litigation with the court in connection of food supplying. Due to case pending in the
court he is incurring losses as he supplies food items with old rates of five
years back. It might be some anomalies in order to save off some losses”. In
reply to a query he said that he had lodged a case to the court as some Awami League backed people resisted him
to submit tender five years back. That is why the authority could not call any
tender and he used to supply food items
with the old rates.
Dr. Sumaya who is designated to receive the food items said, the
matter was being looked after by the Superintendent of the hospital.
Ariful Enam Bakul, General Secretary of Meherpur Chamber and
Commerce and Industries said, he went to hospital and requested the concerned
employees for not doing any irregularities to supply foods. He also told them
that he would take his launch with the patients. But result was zero. Food supplying contractor
Lal Mia was requested to set-aside the case but did not pay heed.
Dr. Mizanur Rahman, Superintendent of Meherpur 250-Bed General
Hospital said that the food as supplied on the Victory day were substandard.
Contractor should change the same, he added.
Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, Mayor said that from now everyday one
representative on behalf of his municipality would present at the kitchen of
the hospital to receive the food items according to sanctioned list. He firmly
expressed to root out the corruption at any cost.
