The villagers of Govipur under sadar Upazila of the district on Tuesday allegedly vandalized the den of a saint located beside the Buripota Union Porishod on 10 bighas of land. Villagers demanded that the lands of the den are their own properties.
According to spot reports, on Tuesday after Fazar prayer some influential of village Govipur called the villagers by using mike of the village masjid to take part in order to vandalize and evict darbar (den) of the so-called saint Bagu Shah Dewan. Following the invitation from the Masjid, more than thousand villagers equipped with lethal weapons took part in ransacking the saint’s den in presence of police. They allegedly ransacked the pucca Ebdat Khana (Prayer Place), living and kitchen rooms and also cut down different fruit bearing trees. Although, police rushed to the spot but could not resist them.
The villagers complaints that the lands of the den kept under their possession illegally as they are the owner of lands. Now the den is the place of misdeeds. They also alleged that in spite of their land, the political leaders by influencing political power dispossessed them.
Alamgir alias Alam Pagla caretaker of the den said that the complaints of the villagers are fully false and baseless. The owner of lands is Bagu Dewan (Saint). It has duly been recorded in RS Khatian bearing no. 8 and plot numbers 444/445 which total area is 2.38 acres.
Shahjamal, President of Buripota Union Awami League said that some members of Boul community used to hold parley of ganja (hemp) taking in the name of performing religious activities. As a result the youths of the area are becoming drug addict that is why it has been demolished by the villagers.
Caretaker of the den Alam Pagla said, in order to take over the possession of the valuable lands they allegedly ransacked the Darbar Sharif (Den) in planned way.
