Meherpur Municipality Poll :Voting in two centers suspended

Two vote centers of Meherpur pourosova election were suspended  by district Returning Officer at 10.45am on the pretext of security reason. These two centers are located at  Government Secondary Boys School no. 1 and 2 under ward bearing no. 7. Votes casting were being continued in rest 13 centers peacefully till the time of writing this reports.

Presiding Officers Subrata Kumar Pal, Engineer, Education Engineering Department and Shahin Kabir, Assistant Director of Islamic Foundation  stopped vote on the plea of security problem.  

The voting had started at 8 am and the male and female voters were casting their votes with festive mood. These two presiding officers showing the security problem closed the voting centers after nearly three hours. Later, all the materials in relates to election took back to district election office at around 12.00pm. from the centers. All concerned officers and law enforcers were closed from the centers too.

When contacted with the Returning Officer also the District Election Officer Rokonuzzaman over cell phone  said the designated presiding officers alleged in black and white at 10am  that  a few persons snatched ballot papers and affixed seal on it last night. Following the allegation voting of the two centers were  suspended. The ballot papers were snatched in Monday night, if so, why did they lodge complaints at 10 am today? In reply the Returning Officer said that  due to completion of legal process it took time. Mentionable, voting had started timely at 8 am peacefully.  

Officer on duty in Sadar police station ASI Alamin said that he knew nothing about the matter in question. Centering the sensitive incident, when contacted Police Super Anisur Rahman said,”The voting was continuing in under the cover of stiff security. So far I know the Presiding Officers do not file any complaints in the police station in connection with snatching ballot papers”.

The candidates for the post of Mayor, General Councilors and the common voters came to the vote centers opined that no unwanted incident occurred in the center and voting was running peacefully.
