Low laying area submerged under water

Some low laying areas of Gangni upazila of the district have been submerged under water due to heavy rain fall for the last two days. More than  thousands people have become marooned and taken shelter beside roads.  People of eight villages of Sholotaka, Motmura and Shaharbati UPs are badly affected. Meanwhile, their seedbeds and transplanted amon paddy fields were damaged .  The villagers alleged that due to the closed sluice gates and the unplanned digging  ponds for fish culture rainwater could not drain out to the canals and fens.

While visiting the affected areas found that the village Sholotaka is under knee-deep water due to heavy down pour for the last two days.  The villagers do have the chance  even to cook too and they are in more problem taking their cattle heads.  UP member Khaleda Khatun told that the water logging caused as the rain water  could not drain out   into the nearby river Chewtia as the influential people dug ponds  on the water flowing path.

Sabud member of village Jorpukuria said that their village located on low laying area to some extent and there is no arrangement to drainage water. If it could be possible to flow water to the Bhorat marsh, people of villages Hijolbaria and Dharmachaki could get rid from the marooned problems.  He also said that due to digging of ponds for fish culture in the outlet of local Stuard canal  water could not  drain out from the village and crop lands.

On the other hand, Kuniar canal became silted up that is why the water of Nowaal Ara fen of village Khamarkhali under Motmura UP could not drain out as a result more than hundred families  have became marooned. Some families were found took shelter beside  Sindurkota bazaar. The only path of water flowing of Budu Gari, Nonar Beel and Munduli beel to Mundail canal is closed for constructing a sluice gate as a result it could not be possible to drain out the water. At this, the sufferings of the villagers of Jugirghofa and Shohrabaria  have been increased to a great extent.

Raichuddin, Gangni Upazila Agricultural Officer said, target has been fixed to cultivate transplanted amon on 13 thousands 500 hectors of land during the on going season in Gangi upazila. Meanwhile, only 3 thousands hectors plantation completed which already submerged under water. Almost all the seedbeds  damaged as a result the scarcity of seedlings might experience. Besides, the vegetable and chili fields might damage.

Dilip Kumar, Upazila Project Implementation Officer , Gangni informed his office not yet received any list of depreciated farmers caused by the heavy rainfall of Thursday and Friday. He asked the respective Union Porishod Chairmen to submit the list of depreciated farmers.
