MEHERPUR, MAY 19: A court here today sentenced a man to hang  and two were awarded life term imprisonment in a murder case  while 29 persons were acquitted from the charges. 
The convicted were identified as Dhukhu Bahini chief fugitive Minhajul Islam alias Dukhu who was awarded hang. His associates Azimuddin and Cheton Ali of Dhola village under Gangi Upazila of the district were awarded life term imprisonment. Out of them Azimuddin also fugitive. 
According to prosecution, centering the Union Porishod election, UP member Emdadul Haque and his two bothers Jahidul Islam and Ruhul Amin of village Dhola under Gangni upazila of the district were brutally killed by the convicts on 30 Agugust night in 2008. On the following day the widow of Emdadul Haque filed a murder case with Gangni police station accusing 16 persons. On the same year Investigation Officer  Sub-Inspector of Police Moradul Islam submitted charge sheet to the court accusing 32.
T M Musa, Additional District and Session Judge examined 40 witnesses and evidences and handed down the above verdict in a jam pact court. 29 persons were acquitted from the charges. Dukhu and Azimuddin now residing in India and Cheton Ali was present when the court pronouncing verdict.  
Additional Public Prosecutor Advocate Kazi Shahidul haque on behalf of the court while Advocate Abdul Matin, Advocate Shahidul Islam and Advocate Shahinur Rahman pleaded for the defendants.
