Vice Admiral M Farid Habib, Bangladesh Naval Chief today inspected the re-excavation work of the river Bhairab flowing through the district.  

On the occasion a discussion meeting was held at village Rotanpur the starting point of the river re-excavation under Mujibnagar upazila of the district with Commodore  Malik, Managing Director, Dockyard and Engineering Works, Narayangonj in the chair. 

Vice Admiral M Farid Habib attended the meeting as chief guest while Forhad Hossain, MP, Mokbul Hossain, MP, Selina Aktar Banu, MP (Woman Reserved Seat),  Younus Ali, Chief Forest Conservator and Ismail Hossain, Director General, Water Development Board were present as special guests. 

Managing Director of Dockyard and Engineering Works  gave address of welcome.

The chief guest in his speeches said that Bangladesh Navy not only in the country, but also deployed its ship to UN Peace Mission. There is no lacking of advanced ships in Navy and increased its fleets. 

In reply to queries, the Naval Chief told the journalists that  we are able to ensure safety of the total sea belt in consisting of three-dimensional Navy. Our future is now sea. There are so many wealth under the sea, if it is extracted properly the economy of Bangladesh will be more strong.

It may be mentioned here that Dockyard And Engineering Works, Narayangonj under the Supervision of Bangladesh Navy has started re-excavation of the river Bhairab at Meherpur district on 30 April 2015 at a cost of taka 70 crores 65 lakhs which is scheduled to be completed in the mid of 2017. They will re-excavate some 29 km and in the meantime 8 km re-excavation completed. The project is of Bangladesh Water Development Board.
