Bus Terminal Yet to start
According to
municipality source, a bus terminal was built on 8.40 acres of land beside Meherpur-Chuadanga highway at the suburb of the district town.
The works had started on 15 June 2010. Earth filling, building construction, some
part of boundary wall including police box and canteen were completed.
During the time
of physical verification two days back found that all the allotted ticket counters to the
different transport companies were under lock and key. The doors of four rooms
found missing on the first floor of the terminal building and unfit or abandoned motor parts kept in the rooms. The open
spaces are full of grasses and bushes.
Some buses were
found kept slovenly near approach road
for repairing.
Regarding the
existing old bus stand locals said, “A number of buses used to keep in the
small bus stand and during the time of leaving to other destinations it is found
waiting for long time by occupying half portion of the busy main road that
causes hazards”.
Besides, it was
found that the battery run easy bikes wait hither and thither and used to
surround the incoming buses to win passengers stooping the wayfarers and others
vehicles. That is why the traffic movement comes to a standstill state for some
while. Such undesired situation may be removed after running the new bus
terminal, many opined.
Ataul Gani,
Deputy Commissioner(DC) in the meetings of Regional Transport Committee (RTC)
and monthly District Law and Order committee
instructed to park all the vehicles at new bus terminal leaving the road side.
His instruction has been implemented partly.
Hashem Ali,
owner of a tea stall in the new terminal said many parts of the terminal are
being damaged for not using the same.
Rain water also found pouring from some
places of the roof. Only two tea stalls found there used to visit them some
mechanics who repair buses and trucks.
Atahar Ali a
motor worker said that only the buses those have no work are kept here and the
buses that need repair. He also said
that the area became secluded soon after sunset then the addicts became desperate to take drugs.
Matiar Rahman,
General Secretary, Motor Sramik Union said that the bus terminal not yet fit
for keeping buses that is why the bus owners shown reluctant to send their
buses. If the bus owners association desires to keep their buses there, the
worker do not have any objection.
Alhaj Golam
Rasul, General Secretary, District Bus and Minibus Owners Association opined
that the newly built terminal not yet ready. However, he wrote letter to the
bus owners association of neighboring districts Chuadanga and Kushtia as per
decision of the RTC and the monthly law and order meetings requesting them to
use the new bus terminal for keeping and leaving their buses from the new terminal. He said with melancholy
that the Chuadanga bus owners association did not pay heed rather they
forbidden plying all the local buses
including coaches bound for the capital city whereas the Muslim festival
knocking at the door.
Mahfuzur Rahman
Riton, Mayor, Meherpur Muninicipality told
that we are waiting for tender that is under process. Within short time
the work will be started . The works included mosque, falls, boundary wall and floor construction thus the new bus terminal
will get its beautiful shape.
