WCRD observed in Meherpur
MEHERPUR, MAR 15:
Jointly
organized by the district Administration and the Consumers Association of
Bangladesh (CAB) Meherpur branch, a seminar
was held yesterday on the occasion of World Consumers Rights Day-2016 at
deputy commissioner’s office with Rafiqul Alam, President, CAB in the chair.
The theme of the day is
“Antibiotics off the menu”..
Shafiqul
Islam, Deputy Commissioner was present as chief guest while Hemayet Hossain,
Deputy Director, Local Government, Alhaj Ashkar Ali, Vice President, Chamber of
Commerce and Industry and Bashiruddin Ahmed, District Commander, Freedom fight
district command council were were
present as special guests.
Administered
by Noor-a-Alam, Nejarot Deputy Collector, it was addressed among other by
Atarur Rahman, Researcher and General Secretary, Meherpur district development
forum, Dr. Susanto Kumar Halder, Livestock Officer.
The speakers told the seminar
that antibiotics in foods are linked health hazards for the human beings.
That is why Consumers
International believes that all consumers deserve the right not just to food
but to healthy foods with no antibiotics. They stressed on the occasion to make
a framework convention globally that would reduce very high levels of fat, salt
and sugar in everyday foods, reduce the marketing of junk food to children,
provide clear nutrition labeling to help
consumers choose a healthy diets and improve the standard of food served in
public institutions such as schools, hospitals, jails, orphanage.
Cross section of people attended the seminar spontaneously.
Before, holding the seminar a rally on the occasion brought out in the
town led by Shafiqul Islam, Deputy Commissioner that paraded from Shilpokila
Academy to Collectorate premises.
