
The illegal vehicles have been plying in
Meherpur roads and highways with carefree manner since long. Shallow engine
propelled, battery run other vehicles including easy bikes are plying unabated
as a result causing road mishaps and some times claiming lives almost daily.
It has been learnt that one Khejmat Ali,52, of village Islamnagar-Khoksha under sadar upazila of the district met tragic end as an illegal vehicle locally called Alamsadhu knocked him down on 28 August. On 9 July Mir Mahbub, 58, Head Master of Mominpur Secondary School of the same upazila was killed by a cow leaden trolley when he was going back home by riding motor bike.
Meherpur Police Super gave a facebook status attaching
the dead body of Khejmot saying that every day a number of
people is being killed and become disabled by illegal vehicles Aglamon,
Nosimon, Korimon, Alamsadhu, Latahumber etc. on the roads and highways. In the
mean time the Police started drive
against the illegal vehicles which is to be continued. Let come forward and
assist the police cordially to do the job.
It is easily can understand the picture of
the country from the face book status of
the Police Super. Sentient people opined that it is hardly possible to find out
a day without road accidents due to illegal vehicles.
There are three regional highways in Meherpur district viz Meherpur-Kusthia, Meherpur-Chuadanga and Meherpur-Mujibnagar via Kedargonj Darsona. Besides, there are district and upazila roads. Length of regional highways is 134 km. which connected other districts. These roads remain busy nearly 24 hours. The passengers coaches bound for Dhaka, Chattagram, Cox’s bazaar, Khulna and Rajshahi leave from Meherpur including trucks and trunk lorries.

Union said, the inter district coaches and buses could not run normally due to
illegal vehicles plying on the roads.
On the other hand authority concerned used to give all the guilt to the drivers and buses and coaches face destruction. No effective result received yet though we have been demanding to stop the illegal vehicles from the roads, he added.

Side by side, battery run easy bike and pakhi vans carrying passengers like illegal vehicles, some motor bike owners claimed.
It has come to light that abreast changing times found difference demands of the people. Such illegal vehicles became important medium for the rustic people for going to and coming from the district and upazila towns including transportation agricultural products. Although, lives are in peril but the village people keep confidence on such vehicles.
Shallow engine propelled vehicle’s operator said that the vehicles brought laugh on the face of poor families though the vehicles are illegal. Nosimon can buy spending taka 50 to 80 thousands through loan. The loan can repay from the earning abreast one can maintain livelihood nicely. Some families won poverty following this method.

On the other hand it could not be possible to bring the battery run easy bike under motor vehicles act but the district Road Transport Committee said, it is required a clear cut regulations for the easy bikes and valid licenses for drivers.
Mohammad Mostafijur Rahman PPM, Police Super said, police are on the filed in order to implement the government directives and at any cost plying of the illegal vehicles on the regional highways in the district to be stopped.
