Preparation for holding Durga Puja, one of the biggest religious festivals of the Hindu community is going on in full swing. The artisans are found busy in making images of deity Durga at temples in different places of three upazilas of the district.
In order to ensure safety and security of the puja mandaps and devotees a view exchange meeting was held on 24 Septermber, 2016 in the conference room of District Police Office with Anisur Rahman, Superintendent of police in the chair.
The meeting was attended among others by Dr. Romish Chandar Nath, President, Avijit Bosu, General Secretary, District Puja Celebration Committee, a few journalists and officers of concerned departments.
Newly joined Police Super Anisur Rahman said that in order to celebrate the puja festival peacefully in the district all possible security measures arranged by the police.
It may be cited here that District administration and Meherpur district puja celebration committee sources said, a total 35 puja mandaps are being set up in the district this year. Thirteen in Sadar upazila while sixteen at Gangni and 6 at Mujibnagar upazila.
Besides, a view exchange meeting for celebrating the durga puja was also held on 22 September at the conference room of Deputy Commissioner with the leaders of different puja mandaps and members of civil society of the district with Porimal Singh, Deputy Commissioner in the chair. Deputy Commissioner disclosed that 500 kgs of rice allocated for each puja mandaps.
