 Case  against editor of The Daily Star

MEHERPUR, FEB 16: A Tk. 10 crore defamation case  was filed here in a court today by Ariful Islam Enam Bakul, President, District Sechchasebok League  against Mahfuz Anam, Editor, The Daily Star.

The case alleged defamation of Awami League President now Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through publishing derogatory, baseless news provided by certain intelligence agency with ulterior motive during 1/11 regime of 2007 in his newspaper. 

The case filed against the said editor following his  admission that it was mistake on his part to publish news without checking their veracity in a non-government television channel chat on February 4.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Sheikh Nazmul Alam accepted the case and ordered Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury , Officer-in-charge of Meherpur police station to take the lawful action.
